Three Sisters Project

August 19, 2021

I’m currently looking for four UK-based actresses of Eastern European* heritage to take part in a two-day workshop exploring Chekov’s Three Sisters at NDT Broadgate in London on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 September.

The workshop will focus exclusively on the female characters in Chekov’s play and it will not necessarily be cast naturalistically – e.g. a 22 year old might play Anfisa, a 70 year old might play Irena. I’m more interested in an artist’s connection to a particular character than in casting actresses who resemble them.

The workshop will involve devising alongside work on the text itself.

The project is currently unfunded but artists will be paid the equivalent of minimum wage for their time.

To apply please send a short paragraph to me at sarah.grochala@cssd.ac.uk explaining which one of the following characters from Three Sisters, you most identify with: Anfisa, Irena, Masha or Natasha. Please also include a CV and short biog

Fee: £110 for two-day workshop (10am-5pm)

Contract: Freelance. The candidate must be registered as self-employed and will be responsible for their own tax.

Payment: Fees will be paid by bank transfer, on receipt of an invoice after the job is completed

*For the purposes of this project, Eastern Europe is defined as including any former Republic of the USSR, Warsaw Pact country, Yugoslavia and Albania. This includes any ethnic or religious group with a history in these areas. Applicants can be born in, be citizens of or have heritage from these areas.
